The ELR has one of the largest heritage locomotive works in the UK, and can offer a number of engineering services to both Heritage and Mainline locomotives and coaching stock
Looking for a truly unique location to film your next project? Do you want access to fully operational railway infrastructure as well as scenic surroundings? The East Lancashire Railway could be just what you need.
The ELR boasts a 12 mile long mainline, together with many miles of sidings available to train track workers. We also have three stillages with different types of rail that can be worked on independently from the active rails.
With 12 miles of mainline, and many miles of sidings, the ELR is the ideal place to commission track machines and plant.
ELR offers opportunities to test equipment and access track and infrastructure not readily available on the “big” railway.
Because Railway History Deserves to Be Seen
ELR can faithfully restore your rail vehicles with historically accurate painting and hand-crafted signwriting.
ELR MotionWorks, part of the East Lancashire Railway, is your gateway to a diverse range of business-to-business rail services. Whether you need engineering expertise, historic rail vehicle restoration, film location support, or specialist rail testing facilities, we provide tailored solutions backed by decades of railway heritage and technical excellence.
The East Lancashire Railway (ELR) is proud to work in close partnership with businesses across the rail industry. While many know us for our heritage operations, it’s less widely recognised that ELR is a registered charity. Our mission is to preserve and celebrate Britain’s rich railway heritage while contributing to local education, tourism, and community engagement.
Maintaining and developing our infrastructure, rolling stock, and facilities requires ongoing investment—often beyond the scope of ticket sales and commercial activity alone. That’s why support from industry partners makes a meaningful difference.
If your organisation shares our passion for rail heritage, there are ways you can help. Donations, sponsorships, and in-kind contributions help us sustain and grow our work—whether it’s restoring historic locomotives, supporting training opportunities for future engineers, or improving our visitor experience.
We understand the unique demands of working in the rail sector, and we’re always happy to explore bespoke ways to partner that align with your CSR goals, community initiatives, or employee engagement programmes.
Thank you for your continued support.
